Why Ceylon Cardamom

Grown in up country wet and intermediate zones of Sri Lanka, greenish, unopened, three-sided, oval shaped, dried fruit has long been known as the queen of spices for its numerous health benefits. Ceylon cardamom is considered superior to the other types of cardamom found in the global market, as it contains the right aroma, flavor and for its rich medical qualities.

Ceylon cardamom is highly fragrant and tastes minty, spicy and citrusy than the other cardamom. Ceylon cardamom has rich anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic and antimicrobial properties, which provides a range of benifits. hence it holds a high price and a demand in world markets. And it is within safe limits recommended by FAO/WHO guidelines.

Process of production

Ceylon cardamom is harvested once every year from September to January. The greenish semi ripe capsules are harvested manually from the trees.

The oval shaped capsules will be sun dried on clean mats away from direct sun light to preserve their shape and color. They will be turned around frequently to ensure they get an even green color. The capsules will be dried for 3 to 4 days under strict food safe environment to produce the world-renowned Ceylon cardamom.

Description of each Grade

  1. LG (Lanka Green cardamom)
    • This is the highest grade of Ceylon cardamom. It consists of green color large cardamom with almost zero number of splits.

  2. LLG1 (Lanka Light Green cardamom 1)
    • This is the 2nd best grade of Ceylon cardamom. It consists of 5% splits and is lighter green in color.

  3. LLG2 (Lanka Light Green cardamom 2)
    • This is the last grade of Ceylon cardamom. It consists of small light green cardamom with 6% of splits.
